I have not updated my blog in forever. I have been cheating on it with girls like Twitter and Facebook, or as my dry cleaner calls it, The Facebook. A lot has happened over the course of a year, but strangely enough, as i look back on my previous posts, a lot of them still apply.

1. I had another birthday and it was great.
2. I did start training for my Triathlon, however it took a little break…for like a…year. I will get into that later.
3. I started my own DJ company that is actually going very well.

I’m too tired to talk about them now but I will post very soon.

Go Lakers!

It’s an interesting question because for me, the question always implied that you did something spectacular. You were whisked away to some mysterious place, totally unexpected. Well the truth is, sometimes the best birthday can be the one that you don’t do anything on.

It is really hard to get some time to just do nothing. I have a job, a quickly growing company, a family, music, to do items, yard work, etc. I don’t know about you, but for me the hours in the day disappear very quickly. So when my wife asked, “What do you want to do?”. I flashback to being in Fresno for 2 days, working on websites and songlists, preparing for the party Saturday night, training a new DJ…

I replied, nothing.

Don’t get me wrong, we went out to brunch as a family, had a wonderful breakfast on Sunset and then we went home. I watched the first NFL championship game, grabbed my two year old, laid him on my chest and then we took a nap. 2 blissful hours of sleeping on the couch. I awoke and went to the store and bought the things necessary to make my homemade Beef wontons and chicken fried rice. I make everything from scratch by the way. We had a great dinner and then we relaxed with a little wine.

That’s it…nothing spectacular in the traditional sense. No running around, no gathering people for a dinner only to have to wait for them because they will undoubtedly be late. Just a very peaceful day with the family.

This was probably the best birthday I have had in a long time…

Why did I start this again??? Oh yes, personal goal…???

Well, it was a pretty good week, I got in 3 days of training, but it was so hot that it was hard. I may be a black man, but I’m not from Kenya. I can’t take all of this heat! It was kind of a busy week so I really had to squeeze it in. I got in 4 miles of running and then 2 days of weight training. The weight training is apart of my normal week and I don’t plan to stop that just because I added some more intense cardio. I typically don’t run more than 2 miles so even adding the 1 additional mile feels like someone is on my back, yelling at me, why pouring hot cocoa down my shorts. I have not even attempted to swim or get on my bike, although, the 2 flat tires may have something to do with that. Slow and steady. That’s how I roll, or walk…

My main focus this week are breathing and running form. I used to be a sprinter so my distance form is horrible, I really have to get my stride working for me, because right now, we are not seeing eye to eye. As I said before, breathing is very important, or should I say oxygen is very important. So i have slowed my stride down a little to focus on consistent breathing, taking deep slow breaths of oxygen, while exhaling just as slow. I found that this does two things, prevents your muscles from early fatigue because your legs are receiving healthy amounts of oxygen, and two, it’s gets your mind off the pain. After my run, I have noticed my legs don’t hurt as much.

I’ll keep you posted!

I have had a suicidal dream for the past couple of months to subject myself to enormous amounts of pain and suffering all for nothing. I have watched these crazy people jump in a 50 degree ocean and swim a mile, just to come back to land an get on a bike and do what??? Ride 25 miles…but wait there’s more. Once you get off the bike, don’t stop…keep RUNNING another 8-10 miles…

Okay so I don’t want that much pain and I do have an agenda. I want to get ripped, and I think this is the best way to get there. I exercise right now about 3-4 times a week and I am in pretty good shape, but I don’t want to be pretty good. I want to be great!

So I have set up my Triathlon Sprint, which is basically a full Tri cut in half, for March of 09′. It is an all-terrain course because I don’t have a road bike but I still have my once great full suspension Specialized mountain bike.(Why spend the money?)

You can get more information about the event here

I will keep you posted on my status!

Hello All,

I told you I’d be working on some more personal stuff over the coarse of the next few months. Well, we all know that tax day is not a good day in America, and for hard working producers. it sucks even more. Getting paid for music is not like getting paid at your job. Your company will automatically take money out to protect themselves. When you work for yourself it’s all up to you. Sometimes, it’s the choice between rent and…rent. So I have done a real good job to try to correct past issues I’ve had with those people, but no matter how hard you try, there is ALWAYS some else to pay for, or tax modifications, or ungodly interest fees. Well, because of my love for our Government, I wrote this song. I was feeling a little annoyed the day it happened to me (Yes this is a true story) so I was able to channel my Sid Vicious side. It’s raw, but that’s the point. Enjoy

P.S. Don’t audit me.

I was reading through my good friend Linda Latta’s blog the other day where she had written a very insightful piece about acknowledging signs. It got me thinking about fate and divine intervention. Being of Jewish faith, we have always had a pessimistic outlook on signs. Signs can be ambiguous in nature, easily misinterpreted, or just plain wrong. Out of all the practices of the faith, there is one idea that I believe is something all should live by.

DON’T WAIT FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I am all about the signs, almost to a fault. Sometimes, signs can also hold you back, like staying with a dead end job because you haven’t gotten that sign that says, “GET OUT NOW”. Sometimes, you have to make your own sign. I am reminded of a 4 way intersection by my home that had no yield or stop signs, either way. I kept thinking, someone should put a sign up. Obviously, I couldn’t put one up myself, but I could have contacted the City and explained the dangers of this intersection but I didn’t. One was put up about 2 months ago, so someone took the initiative. You can’t always wait for that sign. Sometimes, you are the sign. If not for you, maybe for someone else.

If you are looking for God to show you a sign, you will never see it, because as Humans, we interpret the world in low definition. We see the world based upon experiences, and emotional factors. It is never looked at in the critical degree that it should be. Plain and simple, we see what we want to see, or ignore what we don’t. Perhaps it would be better to close you eyes, and listen inward. That voice in your head is usually right.

As you all know, Check One Two is in full swing. The band is rocking and we got some real heat coming through. Strangely enough though, as the principle producer of the group, I can’t help but feel like something is missing in my musical life. I can’t tell you how often I have made a song and scrapped it because it didn’t sound like CO2. Looking back, I was really doing myself a disservice because it is obviously something that my soul needed to get out. The trick is balancing the two sides together, not showing favoritism for one side or the other. If I make a track that could work for both, than obviously it’s going to CO2.

I don’t really see how they would cross over though. My personal stuff if dark, and a little deeper. CO2 doesn’t, really do deep . I actually don’t know how it’s going to turn out. There is always the strange parable of what your envision versus what it ACTUALLY sounds like. I can’t tell you how many time I have imagined something in my brain that came out sounding nothing like what I heard in the grey matter. Whether it’s due to lack of skill, or that strange instrument sound the can never be found, there is always something that make you compromise with yourself. Sometimes it’s acceptable, sometimes it’s deleted.

So over the next couple of months, I will be working on my personal project. A little darker, a little grungier, and a little more sing songy. Will there be any rap? Of course, but I can’t guarantee how much. I will also try to set up some video to go along with it. We’ll see what my time is like.

Will you come with me on my journey?

Is it me or were these the worst Grammy’s in years? Excluding the fact that the show is always boring, the performances, which are usually the only redeeming quality were just horrible.

Kanye West’s Stronger was overblown fluff. Sorry Kanye, I saw that performance before, when it was called Tron.

Brad Paisly, did he look like he hated standing on stage? No emotion whatsoever. His voice never left the lower register.

I like mash ups just as much as the next guy, but they weren’t thought out at all.

Beyonce and Tina Turner – Not impressed
Tina, here’s a tip, if you can’t walk in it, don’t perform in it.

Aretha Franklin and the Dude in the Cow Jacket -
Was that a bed sheet AND curtain set? What am I missing? What carreer advisor told you you should look like “lymon” from the Sprite commercial.

Kid Rock and the old gal – no comment

Oh and Kanye the Robot, have a little respect for the other Artists, they work just as hard as you. Don’t say this is all a dream and none of it matters in your performance, and turn around when you win the Grammy and say I’m the best and you guys should time your albums better. That’s why they played the “it’s time to get off” music.

The only performance worth watching was the Foo Fighters.
